SCB
Victoria University of Wellington Chapter

The first SCB Chapter in the Oceania Section

Get involved in chapter projects, find out about voluntary opportunities and hear about conservation in the news in our Facebook page

What is SCB?
The Society for Conservation Biology (SCB) is an international professional organization dedicated to promoting the scientific study of the phenomena that affect the maintenance, loss, and restoration of biological diversity. The Society's membership comprises a wide range of people interested in the conservation and study of biological diversity: resource managers, educators, government and private conservation workers, and students make up the more than 10,000 members world-wide.

VUW Chapter of SCB
The purpose of local chapters is to provide a way for SCB members in local areas to organize and network around the mission of the society.
Think of chapters as a way of "acting locally".

The VUW chapter is based at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. Currently, most of our members are students at VUW but we aim to broaden our membership to include professionals working in fields relevant to conservation as well as anyone else with an interest and desire to get involved in conservation.

Why join a chapter?
- Get involved in local conservation projects. Check out the project tab for details of the conservation projects run by the chapter.
- Get involved in conservation policy. We run submission writing workshops on important conservation issues.
- Become part of a vibrant community of students and professionals with an interest in conservation.
- Become a member of a professional, international organization.

- Opportunity to attend regional and international conferences.

What is our mission as a chapter?
To advance the science and practice of conserving biological diversity within and around Wellington, New Zealand.
